Abstract:
This music workshop focuses on the introduction of Southeast Asian music, taking Indonesia as an example. This large country with a population of 250 million and 17,000 islands has a long history and is diverse in ethnicity, language, religion and culture. Therefore, the expression of music and art is very diverse. Indonesian shadow puppetry (wayang kulit) and bamboo tube piano (angklung) have become intangible cultural assets protected by UNESCO, gamelan music and Javanese traditional dance ( tari) has almost become an important cultural diplomacy medium for the Indonesian government.
This lecture focuses on Indonesian music, observing the characteristics and sustainability of Indonesian traditional music, while also expanding on the characteristics of the music of surrounding Southeast Asian countries. In addition to lecture explanations, there are also live performances and instrument demonstrations, allowing participants to get closer to these musics.
