The Nusantara in Southeast Asia is an important part of the Islamic world (Dar al-Islam). In Nusantara, Indonesia has the largest number of Muslims. How Islam spread in Southeast Asia is an important issue concerned by scholars of world history and Islamic archaeology. In the past, Islamic archaeological research in Southeast Asia has achieved considerable results. However, as archaeologists unearthed more materials, more research materials were provided on the process of Islamization in Southeast Asia, which relatively challenged the theories of traditional archaeologists. Today, it is necessary for academic circles to rethink the historical process of Islamization in Southeast Asia.
